All Laser LASIK
Dr. John
Baer is pleased to be one of the few providers in Southern PA and Carroll County, MD to offer this latest, most advanced LASIK
treatment. In All Laser LASIK, Dr. Baer uses a laser instead of a surgical blade to peel back the thin top layer of
the cornea, the first of two steps in any LASIK procedure. In the second step of LASIK, Dr. Baer reshapes the main layer
of the cornea to improve your vision.
Studies have shown that all Laser LASIK is more precise
and less invasive, giving you optimal results.

Wavefront-Guided LASIK
Dr. John
Baer and the staff at South Penn Eye Care also proudly offer Wavefront-guided LASIK. This innovative LASIK procedure uses
a special device to precisely measure the eye's unique irregularities. Wavefront Guided LASIK creates a detailed
"map" of your eye that is similar to a topographical map, recording every dip and curve. The information is
translated into a set of CustomVue treatment instructions for the laser that enhances the precision of your LASIK procedure.
In fact, WaveScan technology provides 25 times great precision than measurements using standard methods.
For many people, this approach results in fewer side effects and better vision than conventional LASIK. Ask
Dr. Baer if this procedure is right for you.

Understanding LASIK
LASIK stands
for "Laser Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis," an outpatient procedure that uses an excimer laser to reshape the eye's
cornea. The cornea is the clear window at the front of the eye that focuses the light so that you can see clearly
when all is working well. When the cornea gets misshaped, it leads to vision problems such as nearsightedness, far-sightedness
and astigmatism.
During LASIK, Dr. Baer, board certified eye physician and surgeon (ophthalmologist) creates a
thin flap in the corneal tissue, then reshapes the cornea to correct your vision. Next, Dr. Baer puts the
flap back in place where it re-adheres on its own.
The procedure is painless, though you may feel some slight
pressure as LASIK is performed. You will recline under the laser in an outpatient suite. Dr. Baer will numb your
eye with some anesthetic drops that may sting slightly. He will then put an eyelid holder called a speculum between
your eyelids to keep them open and prevent you from blinking. The procedure only takes a few minutes.
If you'd like more information about LASIK and whether it's right for you, call South Penn Eye Care in Hanover
